Coastal Discoveries is a non-profit marine education summer program aboard the 48’ Island Time, located on the Newburyport waterfront. Established in 1988, Coastal Discoveries is the longest running local marine summer program providing children with the opportunity to explore and engage with our local marine environment while creating an understanding and appreciation of our coastal waters. Since its inception in 1988, more than 7,000 kids have crossed our decks, and we believe that each year we accomplish our initial mission--to share our love of our ocean environment and to teach respect for its fragility
Activities our children participate in include fishing, exploring islands, whale watching, hauling lobster traps and so much more! Our experienced staff provides a wealth of local maritime knowledge and helps create memories that will last a lifetime. We are the proud recipient of the 2014-2024 Best Children’s Program award from BONS.
In 2014 Beth and Bob Bishop took over as program directors, continuing on the wonderful tradition of sharing their love of the ocean with children aboard. They are excited for many wonderful years ahead!
